Would you love the tools to help children and teens feel more empowered?

Want to guide children to know, value and appreciate who they are?

And did you know you can do this through yoga in a way that is fun and meaningful?

This International Yoga Day, let’s introduce young minds to the incredible power of yoga and mindfulness. Our theme is empowerment, and we’re focusing on the message that “It is who you are that makes you powerful. You are unique and perfect just the way you are.”

Yoga offers children a wonderful way to connect with their inner selves, build strength, and find inner stillness. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through energising yoga sequences, calming breathing techniques, a relaxation script, and a fun mindfulness game—all designed to help kids feel empowered and confident. Let’s dive in and make this day truly special!

Start with this…

Energizing Yoga Sequences for Empowerment

1. Warrior Sequence

The Warrior poses are perfect for instilling a sense of strength and confidence in kids. Here’s a powerful sequence:

  1. Mountain Pose (Tadasana): Stand tall, feet together, arms by your sides. Feel the strength in your body.
  2. Warrior I (Virabhadrasana I): Step one foot back, bend the front knee, and raise your arms overhead. Feel strong and powerful.
  3. Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II): Open your arms to the sides, looking over your front hand. Stand firm and grounded.
  4. Warrior III (Virabhadrasana III): Balance on your front foot, lift your back leg, and extend your arms forward. Imagine flying like a superhero.
  5. Reverse Warrior (Viparita Virabhadrasana): Return to Warrior II, then reach your back hand down your leg and lift your front arm up and back. Feel the stretch and strength.

Repeat on the other side, encouraging kids to feel their power in each pose.

2. Empowerment Flow

A sequence to boost energy and confidence:

  1. Mountain Pose (Tadasana): Stand tall and breathe deeply.
  2. Chair Pose (Utkatasana): Bend your knees and reach your arms up. Feel the strength in your legs.
  3. Tree Pose (Vrksasana): Balance on one foot, place the other foot on your inner thigh or calf, and bring your hands together at your heart. Stand tall like a strong tree.
  4. Star Pose: Stand with legs wide, arms extended to the sides, and stretch out like a shining star.
  5. Goddess Pose (Utkata Konasana): Bend your knees and bring your hands to your hips or reach them up. Feel powerful and grounded.

Calming Breathing Techniques for Inner Stillness

1. Rainbow Breathing

Help kids find calm and focus with this colorful breathing exercise:

  1. Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
  2. Inhale deeply through your nose, imagining a bright red light filling your body.
  3. Exhale slowly through your mouth, letting go of any tension.
  4. Repeat with each colour of the rainbow: orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
  5. Feel calm and centred with each breath.

Relaxation Script: The Inner Power Journey

“Close your eyes and take a deep breath in. Imagine you are walking through a beautiful forest. You see a path that leads to a glowing cave. As you enter the cave, you feel a sense of calm and peace. Inside, you find a mirror. When you look into the mirror, you see your true self—strong, powerful, and full of light. You realise that all the strength and power you need is already within you. Take a moment to feel this inner power. When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes, bringing this feeling of empowerment with you.”

Mindfulness Game: The Empowerment Circle

Gather the kids in a circle (or if just the two of you, sit opposite each other), and take turns sharing one thing they love about themselves or one thing they’re proud of. This game helps kids recognise their unique strengths and build self-confidence.

End the Day with Gratitude

At the end of the day, spend a few minutes looking back over the whole day and sharing 3 things that made you happy, that you loved, and that you’re grateful for.
