Are you passionate about yoga and love working with children? Combining these two interests can lead you down a fulfilling career path as a certified kids yoga teacher. Teaching yoga to children is not only rewarding but also provides a unique opportunity to positively impact their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

The biggest question I get asked is – How do I become a certified kids yoga teacher? Well, becoming a certified kids yoga teacher involves a combination of training, experience, and a genuine love for working with children.

To make it easy, I’ve outlined 3 steps you can take to pursue this fulfilling career:

1. It’s all starts with your personal practice: Spend time everyday enjoying your own yoga practice and developing a good foundation. This might include practicing different yoga styles and poses, understanding pranayama (breathing techniques), and noticing the difference it makes to your own health, body and mind.

2. Complete a kids yoga teacher training programme: Look for a reputable kids yoga teacher training programme that focuses specifically on teaching yoga to children. Make sure it provides the specialised knowledge and skills required to engage and instruct young yogis safely & effectively. (An important note, is to ensure that the training program is certified by Yoga Alliance & Yoga Australia.)

A course that ticks these boxes and will help you get started is the Zenergy Kids Yoga Certificate Training Course

3. Practice, Practice, Practice: After completing the training programme, get out teaching and practising as much as you can. Share what you’ve learned, spread the benefits and gain hands-on experience at schools, community centres, or yoga studios. This practical experience will enhance your teaching skills and give you valuable insights into working with children of different age groups and backgrounds.

The second most common question, I get asked is – What qualifications or training do I need to teach yoga to children?

To teach yoga to children, specific qualifications and training are essential and it all begins with the first step:

Step 1.
Specialised kids yoga training: Investing in a specialised kids yoga teacher training programme is crucial. These programs focus on child development, age-appropriate sequencing, creative and engaging teaching methods, and understanding the unique needs of children during their yoga practice.
Step 2.
Obtain a First aid and CPR certification
Step 3.
Insurance: to teach, you’ll need insurance. To get this, first, complete step 1 and 2.

Now, onto the fun questions.
A question that often comes up that always makes me smile, is – Are there any specific age requirements for teaching kids yoga?

While there are no strict age requirements for teaching kids yoga, it’s important to consider the age groups you feel comfortable working with. Some teachers may prefer working with toddlers and preschoolers, while others may feel drawn to teaching older tweens and teens.

Having said this, your training course should fully equip you in teaching all age groups. In fact, many graduates of the Zenergy courses, often have an idea of the age group they want to teach at the beginning of the course, but by the end, they feel a pull to teach an entirely different age group and it may be the same for you.

Being a Kids Yoga Teacher, is deeply rewarding and heart-filling. Remember though, that it also requires dedication, training, and a genuine passion for working with children.

By completing the necessary qualifications, gaining practical experience, and obtaining certification, you can embark on a rewarding journey of guiding young minds toward physical and emotional well-being. The benefits of teaching yoga to children are far-reaching, and your role as a kids yoga teacher can have a lasting positive impact on their lives.
