Have you been thinking about doing a kids yoga course, but are confused about all the different options and feeling uncertain about how to start ?
Well, you are not alone.
I recently had a conversation with Yoga Australia, who have been getting a lot of calls asking the same thing.
So, what did they do ?
They called me for help.
Thinking back to when I first started teaching yoga to kids, and all the thousands of graduates who have come through the courses, I’ve put together a list of answers to the most common questions
…and I thought you might like them too ?
Here are my TOP TIPS of what you need to know before starting a kids yoga teacher training course….
- Look for a course that is registered with Yoga Australia, Yoga Alliance (The ‘real’ Alliance in the USA) or Fitness Australia and is reputable.
If a course is not registered with Yoga Australia, then that is your warning sign.
2. Choose an established school that has been around for many years and has good results.
By that, I mean good results for the graduates – that graduates have built successful kids yoga businesses after the course.
3. You want to come out of the course with the confidence that what you learn can be applied and will work, so look for a provider who has been teaching children for many years and can teach you strategies and tools that have been tried, tested and work.
4. Many kids yoga courses are based on fun and games, which is great if that is your outcome. However, if you want to impact children with the benefits that yoga can provide — the physical, cognitive and emotional benefits, then look for a course that will not only be fun, but will teach you the substance you are looking for.
I call this – keeping the real essence of yoga in the class.
Why? Because if you are wanting to learn how to teach kids yoga, you want to be able to make an impact in those classes.
Some fun is essential in a kids class, but the greater impact comes from keeping the yoga in tact.
5. Look for a provider that has a substantial curriculum and can meet all your needs. Is there only one course you can take, or is there a definite pathway that will meet all your needs now and in the future. You don’t want to come out of a course feeling like you are not ready and haven’t got all the tools you need.
6. If you want to be the best children’s yoga teacher you can be, check that the course not only gives you ideas, but also trains you ‘how’ to teach. This is often more important than ‘what’ you teach when it comes to kids and teens.
7. As you grow and develop as a teacher, you will look for additional help and training. Look for a school that can provide guidance and mentorship.
At Zenergy Yoga, we have ongoing support for all graduates. We even help you to build a kids yoga business, if that becomes your path.
8. Do you want to build a kids yoga business? – If so, find out how what is covered in the course, and how much support you will receive.
9. Lastly, the best way to choose a course is to find out what past participants are not only saying about it, but have they had success using it?
Check out FB and Google reviews. What are the past participants saying.
Then go further – are the graduates using what they learned and running successful classes and businesses.
I see many people finish a course and say it was super fun. But when they came to use what they learned, it didn’t work.
…That being said, if you would like to learn how to be a kids yoga teacher and be certified by the only training provider registered and endorsed by Yoga Australia, Yoga Alliance, Fitness Australia and the IYTA, click here to get started.
But more than that, you will learn a system that is based in real yoga:
- how to teach classes that impact children on all levels
- how to help kids & teens physically grow strong bodies
- how to work with their minds and thoughts
- how to process and deal with emotions
- how to build strong & supportive connections with themselves and others
- and how to access that calm, peaceful place inside.
You will come out, of the course equipped to make a lasting difference and be confident that your classes will be more than fun and games, but will have substance, meaning and impact.
Hope you join us at one of the upcoming Kids Yoga face to face courses or the online, self-paced course.
